Kashmir Weather Update: Fresh Snowfall and Rain Bring Relief After Season’s Hottest Day

Srinagar, April 8, 2025 – After experiencing the hottest day of the season on Monday, Kashmir witnessed a sudden drop in temperature on Tuesday as fresh snowfall hit higher reaches and rainfall lashed the plains, offering much-needed relief from the heat.
Temperature Drops in Srinagar After Hottest Day
On Monday, Srinagar recorded a high of 28.2°C, which was 9.4°C above the normal average temperature. However, due to rainfall and cloudy skies, Tuesday’s temperature dropped to 24.4°C, marking a 4-degree dip.
Snowfall Reported in Higher Reaches
According to the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), areas like Sinthan Top and other upper reaches received fresh snowfall. The widespread rain that began in the afternoon cooled temperatures across the Kashmir Valley.
IMD Issues Yellow Alert for April 9
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow weather alert for April 9 in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions, warning of:
Isolated thunderstorms
Hailstorms
Lightning
Gusty winds (30–40 KMPH)
Kashmir Weather Forecast – April 9 to April 20
Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of MeT, shared the following weather forecast:
April 9–10: Expect intermittent light rain and snow in higher altitudes across Kashmir; scattered rainfall in Jammu, with chances of thunderstorms and gusty winds.
April 11: Morning rain or snow at a few places, followed by clearing weather.
April 12–17: Weather to remain mostly dry and stable.
April 18–20: Fresh spell of rain and snow likely in higher reaches.
Advisory for Travellers and Farmers
Travelers, tourists, and transporters are advised to stay updated with traffic and weather advisories.
Farmers are urged to pause agricultural activities for the next two days due to potential weather-related disruptions.
