New Aadhaar App Launched: No More Photocopies Needed for Verification

New Delhi, April 9, 2025 – In a significant push toward digital convenience and data privacy, the Government of India has launched a new Aadhaar mobile app that eliminates the need to carry physical Aadhaar cards or submit photocopies at verification points.
The app was unveiled in New Delhi by Union Minister for Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, who highlighted its AI-powered security features and ease of use.
“No physical card, no photocopies. Just Face ID and secure sharing,” the minister said in a video message on X (formerly Twitter).
🔹 Key Features of the New Aadhaar App
✅ Digital Aadhaar Verification: Users can verify identity by scanning a QR code, similar to making a UPI payment.
✅ Face ID Authentication: Enhances privacy and prevents misuse or forgery of Aadhaar data.
Selective Data Sharing: Only essential information is shared — and only with user consent.
✅ No Need for Photocopies: Aadhaar won’t need to be physically handed over at hotels, shops, airports, or any verification desk.
✅ Robust Privacy Safeguards: Built-in anti-fraud features ensure data can’t be tampered with.
> Aadhaar, AI, and India’s Digital Future
Calling Aadhaar the “Aadhaar (foundation)” of many government initiatives, Vaishnav emphasized its integration with AI and digital public infrastructure (DPI) to power India’s secure digital transformation.
He also invited tech stakeholders to contribute ideas for integrating artificial intelligence into Aadhaar-linked services, while keeping privacy and user control at the core.
