Baloch Liberation Army Seizes Jaffar Express, Threatens Execution of Hostages Amid Pakistan Army Offensive.

Quetta, March 11 — In a shocking escalation of violence, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for seizing the Jaffar Express train in Pakistan’s Balochistan province, taking hundreds of passengers and staff hostage. The group has issued a dire warning, threatening to execute over 100 captives if Pakistani forces continue military operations.
According to a statement released by the BLA on Tuesday, fighters from multiple BLA units, including the Majeed Brigade, STOS, Fateh Squad, and ZIRAB Unit, stormed the Jaffar Express earlier in the day. The train, carrying approximately 400 to 450 passengers in nine coaches, was traveling from Quetta to Peshawar when militants opened fire, injuring the train’s driver and gaining control of the coaches.
Following the hijacking, Pakistani security forces launched a ground operation to free the hostages. However, the BLA claims to have repelled the assault and forced ground troops to withdraw after “intense clashes.” The group further alleged that Pakistani military helicopters and drones continue to target the seized train through airstrikes.
In a chilling message, BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch declared:
“The BLA issues a final warning: if aerial bombardment is not stopped immediately, all 100+ hostages will be executed within the next hour. Any further military operation will result in catastrophic consequences.”
Local media reports, including ARY News and Samaa TV, indicate that no contact has been established with the train’s passengers and staff, and the train’s driver remains critically injured.
Meanwhile, the Balochistan government has declared a state of emergency, with all security and administrative agencies mobilized to respond to the unfolding crisis. Government spokesperson Shahid Rind confirmed that emergency measures are now in place as efforts to resolve the hostage situation continue.
The Jaffar Express departed from Quetta at 9 AM, and authorities fear for the safety of the over 450 individuals onboard, including families, children, and railway staff.

This unprecedented hijacking highlights the worsening security situation in Balochistan, where the BLA has waged an armed insurgency for years, demanding independence from Pakistan.
Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the ongoing negotiations or military response. The situation remains highly volatile.
