Pakistani Army Captain, 10 Terrorists Killed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Gunfight

Peshawar, March 21: A Pakistani Army captain and 10 terrorists linked to a banned outfit were killed in a gunfight in Dera Ismail Khan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
The intelligence-based operation (IBO) was conducted on Thursday following reports of terrorist activity in the area.
Captain Hasnain Akhtar led the operation and was martyred in an intense exchange of fire.The military described him as a courageous officer known for his daring actions in previous missions.Security forces seized weapons and ammunition from the slain terrorists, who were involved in attacks on law enforcement and civilians.A sanitization operation is underway, with the military reaffirming its commitment to eradicating terrorism.
Rising Terror Attacks in Pakistan
Pakistan has seen a surge in terrorist attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan in 2021.
In January 2025, terror incidents rose by 42% compared to the previous month, per data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS).74 attacks were recorded nationwide, leading to 91 deaths and 117 injuries.Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was the worst-affected province, followed by Balochistan.The province’s settled districts reported 27 attacks, while its tribal districts saw 19 attacks, resulting in 46 deaths, including 13 security personnel and 25 militants.Pakistan’s security forces continue operations to curb the rising threat of militancy.
