Second Body Recovered of Missing Gujjar Youth in Kulgam 2025
Kulgam, Mar 17 : Police on Sunday recovered the body of another Gujjar youth who had gone missing along with two others from South Kashmir’s Kulgam district last month.
According to official sources, the body of Mohammad Showkat, son of Mohammad Sadiq Bajad, a resident of Chata Doonda, Rajouri (currently living in Chandian Pajan, Qazigund), was found in Vaishow Nallah at Mah Ashmuji area of Kulgam this morning.
Notably, three youths — Riyaz Ahmad Bajad, his younger brother Showkat Ahmad Bajad, and Mukhtar Ahmad — went missing from Qazigund on February 13. They were reportedly on their way to attend a relative’s function in Ashmuji, Kulgam, but never reached the venue. Their mobile phones have been switched off since then.
Earlier, the body of Riyaz Ahmad Bajad was recovered from the same Nallah three days ago. All three youths, originally from Rajouri, were working as laborers in Qazigund.
Family members had filed missing reports, and search operations involving Kulgam Police, SDRF, and NDRF were launched to trace them.
So far, two bodies have been recovered, while search efforts are ongoing to locate Mukhtar Ahmad.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of death and circumstances leading to the tragedy.
