Train hijack in pakistan 104 Hostages rescued
Balochistan, March 12 — In a major operation, Pakistan’s security forces successfully rescued 104 hostages, including 58 men, 31 women, and 15 children, from the Jaffar Express train after it was attacked by terrorists at Bolan Pass, according to ARY News citing security sources.
The Jaffar Express, en route from Quetta to Peshawar, was ambushed in a tunnel by armed terrorists who took passengers hostage, including women and children. The train driver sustained critical injuries during the assault.
Security officials confirmed that 16 terrorists were killed and several others wounded in the operation, which is ongoing as forces continue to comb the area. The terrorists reportedly split into smaller groups to evade capture.
Seventeen injured passengers have been shifted to nearby hospitals for urgent treatment, while an emergency has been declared in all hospitals across Sibbi district to handle casualties.
According to reports, the terrorists are in contact with facilitators based in Afghanistan and were using civilians as human shields, complicating the rescue mission.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for the attack. In a threatening statement, the group warned that it would execute the hostages if military operations, including airstrikes and drone attacks, were not halted immediately. The BLA also claimed to have repelled Pakistani military ground assaults, though security forces continued their offensive.
“The BLA issues a final warning: if aerial bombardment is not stopped, all 100+ hostages will be executed within the next hour,” said Jeeyand Baloch, a spokesperson for the BLA. The group asserted that units including Majeed Brigade, STOS, Fateh Squad, and ZIRAB Unit are actively engaged against Pakistani forces.
Balochistan has witnessed repeated attacks on railway lines, including the Jaffar Express, highlighting ongoing security challenges in the region. In November last year, at least 26 people were killed and over 40 injured in an explosion at Quetta railway station.
The Bolan Pass area remains a highly inaccessible region, adding complexity to ongoing clearance operations. Security forces are proceeding cautiously to avoid civilian casualties and neutralize remaining threats.
This latest attack underscores the persistent threats posed by militant groups in Balochistan, and the ongoing efforts of Pakistan’s security forces to restore order and protect civilians.
